Sunflowers: Speaking in Silence
The sunflowers spoke outside my studio. coaxing pollinators to come get nectar and take pollen along with them. We are not pollinators, yet, the flowers seem to shout to us as well. Plants speak this language in silence. So I painted the sunflowers.

I watched the sunflowers change from one day to the next; petals opening, and after visits from bees, petal colors changing. The cry to pollinators slowly quieted, flowers forming seeds and eventually heavy sunflower heads bending toward the ground where a hungry squirrel’s visit left bare patterns of seedlessness.

These canvases are about plants speaking with animals. I painted the place where I meet with the life surrounding me. When I take risks, keeping my breath, heart, hand and eye open and connected, energy comes out on the canvas.
